Girls' Day 2026

Girl's day

Girl's Day introduces secondary school girls to IT and to the opportunities for study, work and entrepreneurship in the sector. It is part of the worldwide celebrations of the International Girls in ICT Day, established in 2011 by the International Telecommunication Union, an agency of the United Nations. In 2023, the European Union also joined the initiative.

Girl's Day is part of the celebrations of the International Girls in ICT Day, which is held worldwide on the fourth Thursday of the fourth month every year and connects girls with the real world of IT.

Girls from GJAR also took part in the Girl's Day activities. On 23 April 2026, they had the opportunity to explore future career paths for girls in the IT sector.

From the options on offer, I chose the Košice branch of NESS, which develops software and applications for large global companies. They showed us how things work in some of their departments. During the workshops, we tried out how iterative development works by coloring paper Easter eggs. Finally, we talked with women working at the company, and in a pleasant conversation we learned a lot of interesting things about working in the IT sector. Overall it was a great event, with a nice group of girls and a friendly atmosphere.

At FPT, they showed us how to build our own AI agent, but of course they also told us their stories and offered us a tasty breakfast. I enjoyed creating my own AI agent as well as the final Kahoot quiz.
I was completely satisfied with my choice of company.

At the Girl’s Day event organized by the civic association Aj ty v IT, I chose Holcim, which I found very interesting. I learned that Holcim is a leading global supplier of innovative and sustainable building materials and solutions. During the visit, they also introduced us to various professions, such as data analyst and IT project manager, which I found very interesting. I liked that the company is “pet friendly”: employees can book a special office and come to work with their pet (they even mentioned a guinea pig). I was also interested to learn that no employee has their own office or a fixed desk; instead, everyone books one as needed, and most of them work from home, with mandatory office days only twice a month. I felt very comfortable there, and the lady who showed us around was very kind.
