On Thursday, 23 April 2026, as part of Rayman Week, our school hosted an event devoted to cybersecurity. The expert program was provided by doc. RNDr. JUDr. Pavol Sokol, PhD. et PhD. from the Faculty of Science of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University (UPJŠ) in Košice, head of the UPJŠ computer security incident response team (CSIRT-UPJŠ), and Bc. Vanda Matušíková (CSIRT-UPJŠ), a graduate of our school.
The students attended a lecture on cybercrime and then took part in two parallel workshops in the computer science classrooms on Cryptography and Coding and on OSINT. It was a thought-provoking experience that changed many students' view of how the digital world works and what risks lurk in it.
Cybercrime is organized and sophisticated
The lecture explained how cyberattacks work, how they are investigated and why it is important to understand cyberethics and the ethical side of digital behavior.
Your digital footprint is surprisingly easy to trace
The OSINT workshop showed how quickly personal data can be gathered from public sources. The students were surprised at how much information they unintentionally publish about themselves. They also learned about positive uses of OSINT, such as searching for missing persons.
Attackers are creative – even in Morse code
Modern phishing attacks can also use unconventional techniques, for example Morse code to disguise malicious links. For the students, this was a demonstration of how quickly cyber threats evolve.
Cryptography is not just history
The workshop connected the Enigma machine, the Caesar cipher and modern encryption methods. Hands-on work with the CyberChef tool helped students understand how data is encrypted and analyzed in practice.
What students valued most:
- practical demonstrations and real-life examples,
- the chance to try OSINT and cryptography for themselves,
- understanding the risks of social media,
- the discussion about strong passwords and safe behavior online,
- the link between theory and current trends in cybersecurity.
The event strengthened their digital literacy and showed that safe behavior on the internet is an essential part of life in the modern world.
