Why learn Russian?
- Russian is one of the most widely spoken Slavic languages
- it is the native language of more than 150 million people around the world
- it is one of the official languages of the UN and an important language of communication in Eastern Europe and Asia
- Russian has a strong position in science, technology and culture
- knowledge of Russian opens up career opportunities in many fields – business, diplomacy, tourism
- a command of Russian is an advantage when studying at universities focused on international relations, linguistics or history
- it develops analytical thinking and helps with learning other Slavic languages

Goals of the Russian Language Department
- make the teaching of Russian more attractive through modern and creative methods
- deepen students' communication skills through a variety of activities and project-based learning
- take into account students' level and needs when preparing for the maturita (school-leaving exam) and university entrance exams
- motivate students to work independently with Russian texts – articles, short stories, videos
- develop cross-curricular links with history, civics and geography
- encourage reading Russian literature available in the school library
- organize theme days, cultural events and discussions about Russian culture and society
