The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is an educational program under the patronage of the British royal family. It is one of the leading programs working with young people, preparing them for life and work. In 2013, more than a million young people from over 140 countries took part in the program. In its almost 60 years of existence, DofE has inspired and changed the lives of more than eight million young people around the world. DofE can play a key role in students' development outside the classroom by creating opportunities for young people to develop their skills, a healthy lifestyle and helping others, and through the experience of an Adventurous Journey. For their efforts, students are awarded a prestigious certificate that is recognized and valued worldwide. The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is built on the belief that every young person has the potential to succeed, regardless of their background. Young people who take part in the program become more self-confident and goal-oriented, and develop their skills in areas such as communication, problem solving and leadership.
