SOČ (Stredoškolská odborná činnosť – secondary school research competition) is an extracurricular activity for full-time secondary school students (at grammar schools, secondary vocational schools and conservatories) aged 15 to 21.
SOČ develops the talent of gifted students, who can show what they are capable of. They create something new or improve something they know well, are interested in or devote their time to.
All a student needs is a good idea and a consultant to guide them and help them with the practical side. Students can work on their project individually or in a team, with the help of a supervisor or consultant, whose name and workplace they state on the title page of the written part of the project.
By taking part in the competition, students work on current topics, make use of cross-curricular links, learn to work in teams, search for information and cooperate with experts from universities and industry. Outstanding achievements are taken into account in university admissions. Students present their research at the international events Expo-Sciences International (ESI) and Expo-Sciences Europe (ESE).
The competition is organized in the following fields:
01 Leisure time issues
