The Zelená škola (Eco-Schools) program is the largest environmental education program for children and young people in the world. In 2003, it was recognized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as a model of education for sustainable development. The program is under the patronage of the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic.
Zelená škola is an educational program for kindergartens, primary and secondary schools that want to change themselves and their surroundings. The aim of the program is to support school communities in which members experience both the charm and the pitfalls of cooperation. With the help of teachers and parents, students address the real needs of their school and its surroundings, helping to bring about positive change.
It is not enough just to teach about environmental issues; it is also essential to change how we act. We motivate schools to carry out long-term, practical and educational activities that have a real positive impact on the environment of the school and its surroundings.
We respect the freedom of every individual. We believe everyone has the right to find their own way. We consider responsibility for one's behavior towards other people and the nature around us to be an inseparable part of this freedom. We also believe that everything around us deserves our respect.
