Zelená škola (Eco-Schools) 2022 - 2025

The theme of this certification period is food.

Our goals

  1. To reduce the amount of waste in the school canteen by 15 % by May 2025.
  2. To halve the number of uncollected lunches in the school canteen.

Activities that will help us reach these goals

  1. Creating a herb zone, both outdoors (raised beds in the garden) and indoors
  2. Creating a manual on the herbs we grow
  3. Creating an eco-code
  4. Promoting Slovak ingredients from the school canteen in Instagram "stories"
  5. "If you don't want it, share it!" – a container in the school canteen for food that a student or teacher does not want but someone else will be glad to have
  6. If you are not coming to school or have no time for lunch, let your classmates and others at school know – someone will surely be happy to eat it, so cooked food does not go to waste
  7. Preparing a recipe book with step-by-step photos
  8. Themed tastings in the school lobby

The activities are being carried out step by step by members of the Eco-Schools committee, who meet regularly and work in the extracurricular club Zelená škola a zdravé varenie (Eco-Schools and healthy cooking).

members of the Eco-Schools committee

In the certification period 2019 - 2021 we will focus on the priority theme Waste.

In the school year 2017/2018 we registered for the Zelená škola (Eco-Schools) program, with the opportunity to earn the international certificate and the Eco-Schools flag.

A certification period lasts two school years. During this certification period our school focused on one priority theme – Greenery and nature conservation.

During the certification period the school followed the 7-step methodology:

  1. Eco-Schools committee – the action group and organizational guarantor of the program at the school;
  2. Environmental audit – an analysis of the school's current situation in the chosen theme, which serves as the basis for systematic planning ;
  3. Environmental action plan (EAP) – the school's longer-term environmental vision, broken down into sub-goals and concrete activities;
  4. Monitoring and ongoing evaluation of the action plan – continuous monitoring of the program at the school and of how successful the measures introduced under the EAP are;
  5. Pro-environmental teaching – bringing environmental education into lessons.;
  6. Information and cooperation – extending environmental activities into the life of the school and its surroundings;
  7. Eco-code – the school's values and profile, expressed artistically by the students.
Eco-code

After completing all 7 steps of the methodology, the school can apply for the Zelená škola certificate and take part in the final evaluation. A school can earn the international Zelená škola certificate and flag for increasing student involvement, developing students' independence, carrying out high-quality environmental activities and successfully implementing the 7 steps.

Our school has earned the Zelená škola certificate.

The international certificate is valid for 24 months from the date it is awarded. A school awarded the Zelená škola flag and certificate has the right to use the Zelená škola logo on all school documents, letterheads, the school website and the school's promotional materials.
